A total of 16 accessions of wild rice from different regions of Yunnan Province were used for PCR amplification with Pita gene specific primers. The amplified PCR products were cloned into Topo cloning vector, and sequenced. Among 16 accessions, the identical sequence fragment to the resitance Pita gene was amplified separately from 7 accessions. The Pita allele in one accession of Oryza rufipogon with purple stem from Jinghong contains an identical DNA sequence in the coding region to the original Pita resistance gene. It suggested that Yunnan might be one of the origins of the Pita gene.
